Jean-Patrick Besingrand- L’invisible caresse d’un bruit fantôme
L’invisible caresse d’un bruit fantôme is inspired by Junji Ito’s short story entitled ‘Whispering Woman”. This story is about a young girl suffering from a mental illness whereby she must be given specific instructions at all times about every aspect of her life. Her father hires a young caretaker to help his daughter manage her daily life. A bond is created between them, and the young girl’s mental health improves while the health of the caretaker slowly degrades to the point of them being a ghostly presence until they finally disappear. In spite of the disappearance of her caretaker, the young girl still acts as if the caretaker was still there whispering commands in her ear.
The interaction between the different characters shapes the formal structure of the piece. Contrasting elements are developed and emerges from the interaction, the fusion, and distanciation of the characters.
This piece is warmly dedicated to Carla Rees.
