Antonis Anestis

Greek composer Antonis Anestis was the winner of the rarescale 10th Anniversary Composition Competition in 2013 with his work Nights for amplified Kingma System bass flute, cello and piano. He also works as a professional bouzouki player and currently lives in London.

Antonis Anestis was born in Thessaloniki in 1985. He studied Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugueand Orchestration at the Macedonian Conservatory of Thessaloniki and continued his studies in Composition with the established composer and conductor Professor Theodore
Antoniou.

In 2006 he was awarded the 2nd national composition prize at the Dimitris Dragatakis composition competition for his work Concertino and in the same year, the 1st national composition prize at the Young Composer's prize at the Young Composer's Workshop held in Patras University Cultural Centre, for his work A game of chess. In 2008 his work Villa R. - homage a Paul Klee, has been awarded the 1st national composition prize at the Young Composer's Workshop held in Megaron, Athens Concert Hall, organized by the Greek Ministry of Culture for the program Athens-Berlin: Bridges of culture and civilization. His work April quintet was a commission for the 2nd World Symposium on multi-scale material mechanics and engineering sciences held in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in May 2009. In March 2013, his work Two monograms won 3rd prize at the international composition competition Artistes en herbe, held in Luxembourg under the authority of Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture and in the same year, he received 1st prize in rarescale’s 10th anniversary international composition competition for his work “Nights”, held at the Royal College of Music, London.

His music ranges from solo instrumental works to works for ensemble and orchestra, with or without the use of electronics. He has also composed music for documentary films, theatrical plays and websites. His works have been performed by renowned ensembles such as ALEA III, dissonArt ensemble, Hellenic Group of Contemporary Music and others, in Greece, France, Scotland, Germany and U.S.A. He has attended seminars with Th. Antoniou, G. Schuller, H. Tulve, G. Kouroupos, L. Hadjileontiadis, I. Konitopoulos, J. Papadatos, M. Lapidakis and C. Samaras.

He is also a professional music engraver and has cooperated with Athens State Symphony Orchestra as well as with manyindividual composers, and a professional bouzouki player.
